There is nothing simple about Simpli Lauri. The singer/songwriter’s extensive resume includes two albums, many years worth of poetry and her self-published memoir which continues to be read in many countries around the world. From all these talents, her voice and songwriting remain her greatest gift and asset.
Lauri Merrow was born in New England near Boston, MA where she grew up for most of her life. She learned guitar by playing along with a friend on the front steps of her home and later studied many books on the subject. “I loved to sing and play the guitar,” she explains. “It was my refuge, my safe haven.” She soon discovered that her books of poetry were perfect material for her songs and, voila!, a star was born.
In 2005, Steve, Lauri’s husband and best friend, convinced her and their four children to move to Nashville, TN in order to give Lauri a chance to pursue her dream. Her dream became reality in 2007 with the release of her debut album, Leave The Porch Light On. Fueled by positive reviews and reaction, she quickly wrote and released Body and Soul in 2008. The album was co-written by her husband and features some of her son’s artwork.
Whether channeling Janis Joplin or Patsy Cline, Lauri’s music never disappoints. “I may speak softly,” she says with a smile, “but I carry a very big voice. I don't sound like your typical female vocalist from Nashville.”
Simpli Lauri is currently writing songs for her third album.
